As she adjust the fitting of her aqua colored slip dress, she poses for a picture staring fiercely into her bathroom’s vanity mirror. She turns to me and giggles bashfully. “It’s a photoshoot right?” she says mockingly.
Throughout the evening Amy seems natural in front of the camera, her confidence exudes in every image. But this young women doesn’t acquire her confidence through vanity or glamour.
To this 20 year old aspiring business woman, confidence comes from strong sense of ambition and self security.
“Confidence is knowing who you are. Really knowing who you are, what you want, having a goal and never forgetting that goal in your everyday actions.”
Although she is very dedicated to both her education and long term career goals, she remains humbled by her Mexican roots and tight knit family, revealing that her parents are her greatest motivation and is very grateful for the unconditional support they’ve given her as she’s pursued her journey into becoming a successful business woman.
When asked where does she confined for everyday inspiration, she says global management consulting firm Bain & Co. is her greatest inspiration and career aspiration.
“I learned about Bain & Co. through my fellowship this summer. I learned about what the company does, why they hold certain values, and how they become who they are today. This one woman who came to speak to us was direct about the things she was explaining on the company and I liked that. It opened my mind and forced me to sit down and ask myself what I was good at and not just passionate about. But it was her philosophy, on redefining my weakest skills as potential developments, that reenforced a positive outlook within myself.” She says that since then her perspective on herself and her goals have changed for the better.
Yet, behind the strong ambitious demeanor that Amy displays, there is a free spirited, loving side of her that flourishes through her sense of style.
She mentions that she enjoys Jessica Alba’s business woman style because it reflects her inner BOSS WOMAN style. But whether it be getting a workout in before dinner and coming home to her cozy Lincoln Park apartment to watch Shameless or having a nice dinner out with her girls, she likes to feel comfortably free and flirty on her downtime.
“One piece in my clothes I can’t live without is a black maxi skirt with blue, violet and white flowers,” she says.
Her style can be described as an invigorating summer vacation; sitting by the beach, plenty of light weight summer dresses, flower prints, light washed jeans, and a little edgy spunk to keep the good times rolling. But only someone with a demeanor set to conquer the world and still have a loving heart can pull such a style.
